In this article we will explore everything you want to know about healing crystals. We will learn how crystals work, what to use them for and suggested crystals for daily use.
I started dabbling in the magic of crystals when I was about 5 years old. They were so glittery and colorful and they would seem to speak to me. I remember being 11 or 12 and asking my mom if I could take a geology class. So she signed me up at the local community college. I was obsessed.
But then, my teenage years hit and I seemed to forget about my friends, the crystals. It wasn’t until about 2 years ago that I really started to embrace them again.
Aside from the color, beauty, and sparkle that crystals have, they also carry powerful healing capabilities. In this article, we will cover everything you need to know to get started with crystals.
How Crystals Work
All matter is energy. Just as your cells vibrate at a certain frequency, crystals vibrate at their own special frequency. When a person is in good health, his or her frequency vibrates higher than one who is ill.
When energy is transferred from one particle to another, it can have either a constructive or destructive effect (cancels each other out). The practice of crystal healing uses the vibration of the crystal to entrain the blockage or issue in the body. To entrain is to make the frequencies match or be in synch.
So for instance, if a client is having anxiety, I would offer her certain crystals such as blue lace agate to reduce feelings of anxiety and black tourmaline to ground. These stones carry the vibration that is needed to heal her ailment.
Purposes and uses of Crystals
Crystals can be used for a variety of reasons. They are used for illness and healing, manifesting, anxiety, meditation, protection for empaths and more. I use them as part of my daily self care practice and with my reiki clients.
How to Source Healing Crystals
Because crystals carry their own vibration, they are also very absorbent to all energy. I always, always clear and charge my crystals after every single use, otherwise, they will contain the negative energy that they just were healing.
For this reason, I am very careful where I source my crystals. I only buy from shops online that I trust or certain metaphysical shops in my area. These producers use the most sustainable and ethical harvesting practices.
I highly recommend Rock and Tumble and High Vibe Healing Gems on Etsy for cut and tumbled stones. For crystal jewelry I recommend Alchemical Healer on Etsy.
When selecting a stone either online or in person, it is important to tune into your intuition. If you are attracted to a certain crystal, then yes go for it! If you are not, keep looking until one captures your attention. This is obviously much easier to do in person, but with some practice, it can be done just as well virtually.
I highly recommend the book Crystal Reiki by Krista Mitchell for anyone interested in Reiki and crystals and fusing them together in your practice. You do not need to be a Reiki practitioner to use this book! It is also suitable for Reiki masters. This book goes in depth to look at each crystal and it’s properties for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing.
The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall is another excellent resource for those interested in crystals and their properties.
5 Crystals to Get you Started
1. Blue Kyanite
This bluish white stone is shimmery and etheric looking and feeling. It is one of my favorite to work with as an energy worker. It helps channel information and energy and opens up your intuition. It also acts like a shield, encasing your aura in a bubble of protection. Because of its blue color, it aids in communication and allows you to speak your mind confidently.
Blue Kyanite tends to be my go-to stone. I have a pendant that I wear almost daily. It suits my constitutional needs.
2. Black Tourmaline
This black stone is excellent at repelling lower vibrations or negative energy. It acts as a shield around your aura when worn. It also has tremendous grounding properties and can bring you out of your head and back into your body.
I always carry black tourmaline in my pockets (and bra, haha) whenever I go to a place with large crowds and I wear it for every energy work session that I do.
3. Clear quartz
Clear quartz is a must-have stone for any collection. It has an incredibly high frequency and acts as a magnifier. Because of it’s magnifying properties, it works very well in crystal grids. You can charge it with your intentions-just be careful what you wish for!
I use clear quartz to clear my energy. I also use it in healing sessions to amplify another crystal’s potency. For instance, if a client needs extra grounding, I might place a clear quartz and black tourmaline at their root chakra or their feet.
4. Selenite
Selenite is a whitish-clear, mystical and very spiritual stone. It is known to aid in helping one connect to the divine. It is a good stone to use while meditating or when you’re working to open your psychic gifts. Selenite is a very healing stone due to it’s very high frequency.
I often use this stone during meditation and also place it in my work space when working on clients. When doing a healing either on myself or a client, I place selenite at the crown to nourish and strengthen the chakra there. I also use selenite in grids and tend to place them in windows around my home to prevent negative energy from coming in.
5. Citrine
Citrine is a lovely bright clear yellow stone that has a positive effect on the solar plexus chakra, which houses your self worth and confidence. Citrine also is a great stone for inspiring creativity and motivation.
On a spiritual level, citrine helps with developing your intuition and it’s been known to attract abundance. I commonly use it in my healing sessions on the solar plexus chakra. I also use it if I’m feeling down or low- it is an instant mood booster!
