In this article, I will share with you the 4 best tools for empaths. I lived my first 33 years without knowing what my “condition” was. I say condition because others treated it as such. They said “ oh you’re so sensitive” or “you better get a thicker skin”. I always assumed they were right so I tried with all my might to not be so sensitive. Little did they or I know, this condition is actually my super power.
If you are reading my blog and are nodding your head in agreement, you are probably afflicted with the same “condition”. But really now, I’m going to stop calling it that because it really is a blessing and not a curse. It’s called being an empath.
Once I had a name for it and studied it and finally knew what it was, everything started to make so much more sense about why I was the way I was and exactly what I needed to protect myself and finally thrive and not just survive.
What is an Empath?
Empaths are highly sensitive people with the ability to feel other’s feelings, physical and/or emotional. They are highly intuitive and pick up information about people or places. This is very much a soul gift.
Signs and symptoms
There are certain traits that empaths usually have. You may have a few or all of these. You’re intuition will confirm whether or not you are an empath, if you are still in question.

Types of Empaths
Emotional
Emotional empaths pick up feelings and emotions of other people. Sometimes they carry emotions for others’ without realizing that the emotion isn’t their own. Most empaths are emotional empaths.
Physical
Physical empaths can feel pain or illness that another person is feeling in their own body.
Geomantic
Geomantic empaths are deeply connected to the earth and Mother Nature. They often will predict natural disasters.
Animal
Animal empaths are able to connect with animals and know what they are feeling.
Medium
Medium empaths are able to connect with spirit and know what spirit is saying and feeling.
Managing your Gift
The wonderful news is that there are so many ways for you to protect your energy and manage this gift. I know so many of us feel so drained and confused most of the time from carrying other’s emotions. I will teach you how to identify what is yours and what is theirs and even how to create energetic boundaries so that you don’t have to feel those feelings unless you want or need to.
Healers and lightworkers are usually always empaths because it helps us with our clients. We can anticipate our clients’ needs before they are even cognizant of them.
Here are my tools in my empath toolkit:
1. Be selective in choosing what situations and environments you put yourself in.
If crowds and loud noises are overwhelming for you and you are already low on battery, maybe going to a loud concert is not the best idea for you at that moment. Or if your friend talks A LOT or is an energy vampire, maybe you start to limit contact with her.
We often put ourselves in situations without really realizing that they are causing us undue stress. Or sometimes we do it out of feelings of obligation on guilt. Enough of that! It’s time to let that guilt go and respect your own boundaries.
2. Have a solid energy hygiene routine
Managing your energy is super important for empaths! Because we tend to be like sponges and pick up all the energy, we need to be able to protect ourselves from that energy. Without it, that’s where the anxiety and overwhelm comes from.
To maintain my energy, I like to ground, clear and protect.
Grounding:
Visualize tree roots coming out of your feet and diving deep down into the earth. On your inhales, breathe earth energy up into your body through those roots.
Clear:
Ask your angels and guides to remove any negative energy from your aura. Alternately, you can smudge yourself with palo santo or white sage.
Protect:
Close your eyes and visualize a bubble around yourself. Set the intent that only positive energy can come into your bubble and anything negative is reflected off of it.

3. Use crystals
Crystals are one of my favorite tools to use. They emit a very high energy frequency and many of them have protective qualities. You can wear jewelry that have stones or you can carry them with you in your pockets. I tend to do both when I’m working with clients or if I’m entering a place with a lot of crowds.
Black tourmaline– this stone is very grounding and also highly protective. It actually transmutes negative energy! It’s my go-to stone for empath protection.
Hematite– this stone forms a protective shield around you and helps strengthen your aura. It also helps with grounding and emotions.
Amethyst– calms anxiety and shields from negativity. The energy that this crystal emits is very calming.
Obsidian- this stone offers heavy duty protection, like a bodyguard. I tend to only use this stone if I’m going into a space clearing or somewhere where I know there is low vibe energy hanging around.
Malachite– this stone helps an empath filter out which emotion’s belong to them and which ones belong to other people. It also helps to clear and release stagnant energy.
4. Honor your intuition
We all have intuition. Some have more experience listening to it than others, but like any gift, it takes practice to be able to access it and trust it. One of the most important tools us empaths have is our intuitive abilities.
During the holidays, when you are trying to figure out what is important to you, what traditions you want to keep, what can be discarded, and where your energy is going, allow your intuition to guide you.
One of my favorite ways to get in touch with my intuition is by journaling. I sit quietly and light a candle. I get out my favorite pen and my journal and take a few deep breathes. I close my eyes and usually ask my guides and angels to come in to be with me. Sometimes (ok usually) I just start writing because there is just plenty floating around in my brain that needs to come out. Other times, if I’m having a hard time getting words out onto the page, I ask spirit a question. Like: “what do I need to know right now?” or “What do I need to let go of?” Then let the words flow out of your pen and onto the page without censoring.
There’s other tools for developing your intuition like using oracle cards and meditation.
Allowing your intuition to guide you will help you manage your gift of being an empath. Most importantly, if you get an intuitive hit, follow it! If you hear ‘stay home tonight’ then trust that! Even if it means disappointing someone else. Your personal boundaries and energy are number one. Yes there may be give and take and times you have to compromise, but you should always try to protect your energy as your top priority.

By learning where your energetic boundaries are, using crystals, having a good energy hygiene routine and trusting your intuition, you will be thriving as an empath and ready to use your super powers instead of them getting the better of you!
