The soul aspects and why they hold the key to your healing

The soul has many aspects. When you are on your healing journey, it’s so helpful to know what part of the soul experienced a trauma, and therefore needs healing. So in this article, we will explore all of the different aspects of the soul. In the next article of this series, you’ll learn how to work with the aspects for healing.

Who the aspects are

The aspects are the parts of you that make up you as a whole. For example there’s your ego, your inner child, and your dark shadow, just to name a few. Each one has a different role and has different experiences. All holding different traumas and beliefs.

Why you want to work with them

You want to get to know them and work with them because they hold the key to your healing and ultimately, your transformation. By developing a relationship with your different aspects, you begin to learn about the traumas they hold and can help them heal and transmute it.

The Inner Child

You’ve probably heard of your inner child before; maybe you’ve even done some inner child work, too. Did you know that you have multiple aspects of your inner child aspects!? Sounds confusing, right? It’s really not.

When you think about it this way: we all have certain experiences at each age of life. So for example, let’s say at 3 years old, your parents separated. And then at 7 years old, you were made-fun of at school. That 3 year old version and 7 year old version of you both have a trauma and a story to tell. They both need to be worked with.

The traumas you experienced may be bigger, like these examples, or they could have been more subtle, like your emotional needs not being met by your parents. Whatever it is, that age that you were at when the thing happened, will stay in that trauma energy until it is released.

Dark Shadow

The shadow is the part of you that holds beliefs, ideas, experiences, and energy that you don’t want to deal with or that you may find taboo. The shadow often holds suppressed or rejected emotions like shame, fear, disgust, embarrassment, rage, and jealousy, just to name a few.

Leaving the dark shadow ‘locked up’ or not expressed can often lead to addictions, mental health issues, anger problems, major depression, and the dark night of the soul.

Working with the dark shadow is essential in the healing process. I’ll be sharing exactly how in the next article of this series.

Light Shadow

The light shadow is the counter-point to the dark shadow. It’s the aspect that connects with “doing good” and your beliefs about what “good” is. For example, this part of you can hold feelings like envy or inferiority and not feeling good enough. When people refer to spiritual bypassing, this is often the aspect that needs working with. If this aspect is running the show, there may be a lot of ignoring or dismissing of the dark and focus on the light.

Ego

The ego is the part of you that wants to get you ahead in life. I often think that the ego gets a bad rap in spiritual communities. I believe the ego is essential and tries to keep us safe and alive. We want to strike a balance between ego-maniac and ego-death! It’s important to learn what your ego sounds like, so that when you are doing spiritual and healing work, you recognize when your ego talking vs. your higher self.

At the beginning, the ego often is loud because this is new and change threatens the familiar paths, so knowing the words your ego uses and the voice it has is very helpful.

Higher Self

The higher self is the aspect of you that holds all of the knowledge about your past lives, future lives, and current life. She is the part of you that knows exactly what to do. She is the aspect that is the closest to God.

Working with your higher self can be life changing in many ways. To have her support and her wisdom gives you clarity, peace, and connection to your intuition.

Soul Self

The soul aspect is you. The soul holds all of the experience of all of your past lives, sometimes consciously, but usually unconsciously. The soul is made up of your beliefs and desires, your character. It is everything about you.

Learning how to tune in to your soul is a valuable practice that can bring you more in touch with yourself and your desires. And it helps to avoid repressed emotions when you speak with your soul self often.

past lives

Past Life Selves

We all have lived many, many past lives. The soul holds onto the experiences we had in each lifetime. These aspects can get stuck in time, re-living a trauma over and over again, so it’s important to find them, pull them out, do some healing work with them, and re-integrate them through a shamanic process called soul retrieval.

Conclusion

You can see that we are very multi-faceted beings with layers and layers of parts that make us up. Getting to know each part is illuminating and integral to the healing process. I hope this article clarifies who the soul aspects are. I’m excited to share the next article in this series about how to work with the aspects!
