People disconnect from their soul for many different reasons. And often, the side effects will look like anxiety, depression, apathy, and lack of joy, satisfaction, clarity. In this article, you will learn why we disconnect from our soul, what the disconnection looks like, how to connect to your soul and why it’s important that we stay connected.

There’s a soul disconnection epidemic

Usually when we think of disconnecting, we might think of mindlessly scrolling the phone or watching tv. Sure those are some ways that we can disconnect but the disconnect from the soul that I’m noticing runs even deeper.

Lately, the people that I’m supporting are coming to me with this deep disconnect. They often are out of their body and have a hard time staying present and an even harder time staying in a meditative state to receive the healing. Usually there’s been a common theme of general unhappiness, lack of clarity, and just not feeling satisfied by life.

Once we are able to re-establish the connection with their soul, things start getting easier and the fog of un-happiness is lifting.

My Story

I noticed myself disconnecting before I noticed those around me doing it too. I remember feeling not quite depressed, but definitely unhappy and totally unsatisfied with my life. I felt the nudging from my soul to get into nature but I ignored it for months. One day, I finally went to my favorite creek. I felt called to wade into the water, in spite of it being late fall and pretty cold. I stepped in and just stood there for a long time.

I noticed myself trying to out-think my situation. My brain ran through endless thoughts, problems, solutions, grocery lists… it was exhausting. But then it just stopped and I was able to finally see the nature around me. I was able to hear the water running and feel the coolness of it.

Once my brain was quiet, I finally heard it. My soul. SHOUTING at me. I’ll never forget how clear the message was. My soul told me how unhappy she was and how she felt completely ignored.

I am so grateful I was able to hear my soul that day. Before that, I knew I was unhappy but I didn’t know how to fix it. I spent a lot of time distracting and doing and it really took a toll on my soul.

After I heard her so clearly at the creek that day, I was able to work on re-connecting to my soul and even began to work as a team to improve my life.

What does soul disconnection look like?

This is specific to the individual but here’s a list of common symptoms. If you have two or more of these symptoms, there’s a very good possibility that you are disconnected.

  • Unhappy or full on depression
  • Anxiety (*this is a big one)
  • Distracted
  • Forgetful
  • Have a hard time staying in the present (you spend a lot of time in the past or future)
  • Constant thinking, almost obsessive thinking
  • Staying BUSY
  • Using distraction tools (tv, phone, wine, sex, etc)
  • Feeling foggy or like your intuition left
  • Feeling unsatisfied
  • Apathy
  • Irritability

The consequences of staying disconnected from your soul

The interesting thing I’ve noticed about all of the people that have this soul disconnection is that they are leaving their body. A lot. When I started working with their spirit team and their soul, I would ask all about why they are leaving their body, how long they have been doing it, and what would it take for them to come back in.

The answer was pretty much the same for each soul. They had lost faith and/or trust that they’d ever be heard. Read that again. The soul had lost faith that they’d ever be heard. This is big! And it makes a lot of sense. Imagine that you were telling your spouse or your best friend over and over that you were feeling ____________ and they literally ignored you and did pretty much the opposite of what you were asking for?! Yeah, you’d probably get pretty frustrated and start leaving or spending less time around them too!

These sweet clients weren’t purposefully trying to ignore their soul of course. Life gets busy and complicated. It’s also a self preservation act sometimes if we have lost trust with our soul and spirit team, sometimes we unconsciously cut the contact.

The good news is that you can re-connect with your soul anytime. I’ll share with you what has worked for me and my clients.

Soul connection activities

This is a fun list of soul connection activities that I’ve collected for myself and my clients. Everyone is going to be different here so pick 1-3 to start with that sound good to you.

How to connect with your soul

1.Notice how you disconnect

What are the activities that distract you? Make a list and write them down, preferably with a pen and paper where you can refer back.

2.What symptoms of soul disconnect do you have?

Take note of the symptoms that you have from the list above. Notice what you’re feeling. You’ll want to refer back to this later to see how your symptoms are improving. This is your motive for desiring change!

3.What soul connecting activities sound good to you?

Write down at least 3 activities that sound good to you from the list above or make up your own. Schedule your soul time into your calendar. Daily <3 Aim for even 15 minutes a day to start.

4. What are your goals for connecting to your soul?

Record your goals in your journal. What do you hope to accomplish by connecting to your soul? Why is it important to you?

5. Call yourself back in

For those of us that have gotten into the habit of leaving the body, we’ll want to make sure we are all the way back in before doing our re-connection practices. Say this affirmation out loud or to yourself:

“I call all of myself back into my body now”. Take a deep breath. And so it is.

6. Listen for your soul’s voice

This part may or may not feel overwhelming at first. Take the pressure off of expecting to hear an actual voice or sentence. Focus instead on your activity that you are doing and how it’s making you feel. As you continue to practice, you’ll start to hear your soul clearer and clearer.

Advanced Support

There will be some of you reading this who are thinking to yourself ‘I already do all of these things and I still feel disconnected’. In many cases, soul disconnection is a form of soul loss- a shamanic term for when a trauma happens to a person and a part of their soul fragments off in attempts for self-protection. I have an article coming out about this very topic next week.

But for this person, the best remedy for this soul loss would be a soul retrieval- a shamanic practice to bring back this soul fragment. This is a very advanced technique and must be done by a qualified practitioner. If you feel this is you, please reach out to me and I am happy to assist you. Alternatively, I have a soul retrieval meditation in my shop that is very powerful and may be able to retrieve that fragment for you, without a 1:1 session.
